Project CHAMPS is a feeding program for children, ages 3 to 18 at three locations in El Centro. The CHAMPS program works in conjunction with the National League of Cities, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Calexico Neighborhood House, and is operated by the City of El Centro Community Services Department. The purpose of the program is to address child hunger with healthy, nutritious food that will help meet their nutritional needs. Project CHAMPS provides a meal to children after school and during the summer at the El Centro Community Center, the El Centro Public Library, and the new Sports Pavilion. There are also activities available daily for the children at all three site locations.

The City of El Centro Community Services Department is planning a special event on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 4pm to 7pm at the Sports Pavilion located at 770 Park Avenue. The "CHAMPS Challenge" community outreach event will feature awareness, education, and hands-on tools to children and adults to learn about the City's Afterschool and Summer Feeding Program, and how to best approach the physical and well-being needs of children and their families. For more information on Project CHAMPS, please call Parks and Recreation at 760.337.4555 or the El Centro Public Library at 760.337.4565.
