Dear Prospective Police Officer Trainee Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the El Centro Police Department. We welcome your interest in the profession of law enforcement.

Becoming a Police Officer Trainee will be a difficult process filled with testing and a rigorous background investigation. After your application has been accepted you will begin the testing process with physical agility testing and then a written examination.

The physical agility testing will consist of 5 timed events. There will be:

  • A 500 yard run
  • A 165 pound body drag
  • A 6 foot wooden wall climb
  • A 6 foot chain link fence climb
  • and a 99 yard obstacle course.

You will do each event twice (except the 500 yard run) and your fastest time will be recorded for score. You must gain a minimum of 384 points to successfully pass the agility testing.

The written examination will be administered only to those applicants who have been successful in the physical agility testing. A practice test is available on the web at www.post.ca.gov, click on “Selection and Recruitment”, and then click on “Peace Officer Selection Tests”. There you will find the practice examination and other useful information.

Applicants who are successful in the written examination will be invited to an oral interview panel. After the interview panel the background investigation begins, followed by a polygraph examination, a psychological examination, and a medical examination. More information on those events will be given as the successful applicant completes each phase of the testing and selection process.

Should you have any questions about the testing or selection process please contact Sergeant Theresa Quinn at 760-337-4502, or tquinn@ecpd.org.

Best Regards,

Leonard Knight
Chief of Police
