  Bucklin Park Improvements
When the Measure P tax increase initiative was adopted by voters in November 2016, the primary purpose of the funding was to address major capital needs within the City. One of the projects prioritized for this funding was the Bucklin Park Renovation. This regional park, located at 1350 S. 8th Street, is widely utilized by the community for exercise, recreation, family get-togethers, social gatherings, and special events. The City of El Centro is excited to announce that Phase I and Phase II renovations at Bucklin Park have been completed.
As part of Phase I, enhancements to the park included construction of a lighted monument sign, an aesthetically designed trash enclosure, and the installation of benches along the heavily utilized walking path. The cost of this phase was $177,531.
The park improvements continued in Phase II, where much needed renovations and updates were undertaken on both the park ramadas and restroom facility. The project included the repainting of the shade structures and updated concrete work surrounding the ramada areas, as well as renovations to the restrooms to bring them up to current ADA standards. The Phase II improvements construction cost was $556,935.
While the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of the park amenities for a period of several months, the playground and ramadas have since re-opened for public use. Due to local health restrictions, the bathrooms remain closed until further notice.
