Cheryl was born and raised
in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the University of Washington
with a BA in Society & Justice. Cheryl is a Senior Vice President
and the Director of Vendor Management at Rabobank, N.A.
Cheryl was elected to the El Centro City Council in 1997 and re-elected
in 2001 and 2005. Cheryl has served two terms as Mayor of El Centro:
November 2000 to November 2001 and November 2004 to November 2005.
Cheryl is a member of the El Centro Regional Medical Center Board
of Trustees, where she chairs the Planning Committee and serves
on the Finance Committee. She is President of the Imperial Valley
(Breakfast) Rotary Club and a member of the County of Imperial Workforce
Development Board. Cheryl is a past member of the Imperial County
Juvenile Justice Commission and the El Centro Chamber of Commerce
Community Enhancement Committee. Cheryl is past president of the
local division of the California League of Cities. She is active
with the Imperial County Bar Association and local youth soccer
programs.
Cheryl is married to Steve Walker, an attorney, who was born in
Calexico and raised in El Centro. Steve is a trustee for the Central
Union High School District. They have two sons. Casey graduated
from UCLA and is attending graduate school at Princeton University.
Kiel is a graduate of Yale University and works for Turnstile Entertainment
in New York City.
